COBIE SMULDERS
Date of Birth: April 3, 1982
Vancouver-born Cobie Smulders, born Jacoba Francisca Maria Smulders, had no interest in acting until high school, when she landed roles in several school productions. Still, her professional career began with modeling, which gave her the opportunity to travel around the world.
Despite her rising success as a model, Cobie hated the profession and claimed that it made her wary about pursuing acting. However, after realizing that acting required more than just looking good, she became excited about the change in career and began landing small roles on television series such as Jeremiah, Special Unit 2 and Tru Calling.
Her first major acting role was the starring role of Juliet Droil on the short-lived science-fiction series Vertitas: The Quest. From then on, Cobie began landing bigger television guest appearances on shows such as The L Word and even began getting roles in small budget films.
Her most memorable role came in 2005 when she was cast as Canadian-American journalist Robin Sherbatsky on the hit television show How I Met Your Mother. Her hilarious and poignant portrayal as cigar-smoking and whisky-chugging Robin helped her land some major film roles, most notably as Agent Maria Hill in Joss Whedon’s 2012 hit The Avengers. Whedon also considered her for the title role in the now-cancelled Wonder Woman movie.
Cobie has successfully maintained a huge small screen following and is achieving an equally impressive one on the big screen as well. She was seen alongside Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough in the romantic drama Safe Haven and in Captain America: The Winter Soldier starring Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. She also plays a lead role in Ken Scott’s comedy The Delivery Man, starring alongside Chris Pratt and Vince Vaughn. She more recently reprised her role as Maria Hill in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
Cobie's more recent films include the indie ensemble dramedy The Intervention (2016), the action-packed Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016) with Tom Cruise and she recently starred in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).
Cobie is married to actor Taran Killam, with whom she has a daughter named Shaelyn Cado Killam. The family resides in Los Angeles.
