CLINT HOWARD
Date of Birth: April 20, 1959
The younger brother of director/actor Ron Howard, Clint Howard was born in Burbank, California. His first role was as a toddler, playing Leon on The Andy Griffith Show, which starred Ron as Andy's son Opie. After guest appearances on several other shows including The Fugitive, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Bonanza and Star Trek, Clint landed his own CBS-TV series at the age of eight, playing the lead role of Mark Wedloe in Gentle Ben, co-starring Dennis Weaver as his dad. Clint's real father, Rance Howard, also played a regular role in the show as Henry Broomhauer. The popular series lasted two seasons, but Howard kept working steadily afterwards with guest appearances in Love American Style, The Odd Couple, Family Affair, Marcus Welby M.D., Nanny and the Professor, The Rookies and Streets of San Francisco, all before the age of fourteen. By 1974, his brother Ron had landed a lead role in another TV series called Happy Days, and Clint made a couple of appearances during the ten-year run of the hit show.
Puberty didn't seem to slow Clint's career down as it did with most child stars. He made the transition to adult roles with guest roles on shows such as Lou Grant and appearances in films directed by his brother such as Night Shift (1982), Splash (1984), Cocoon (1985), Gung Ho (1986), Parenthood (1989), Backdraft (1991) and Apollo 13 (1995), but also in other films such as The Rocketeer (1991), Carnosaur (1993), Forget Paris (1995), the title role in The Ice Cream Man (1995), Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), The Waterboy (1998), My Dog Skip (2000), Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) and The House of the Dead (2003). Since his feature film debut at the age of six, Howard has appeared in over 75 movies. In 2002, he was awarded an MTV Movie Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Howard has been married to his wife Melanie since 1995 and lives in the Los Angeles area. His father continues to act in feature films, while his mother, Jean Speegle Howard, who began acting on television in 1975, died in 2000. Howard enjoys golfing in his spare time.
