CAROLE BOUQUET
Date of Birth: August 18, 1957
Carole Bouquet was born in Neuilly-on-Seine, France. After graduating from high school, she registered at the Sorbonne in Paris, but soon dropped out to take a three-year acting program at the Academy of Dramatic Arts instead. She left after only one year when she was offered a lead role in the feature film, Cet obscur objet du désir (1977). She next landed a role in a French/Italian co-production, Il Cappotto di Astrakan (1979), which filmed in Italy. While there, Bouquet developed a love for the country and returned often, even accepting films because they were filming there, regardless of the script. She then went to New York to improve her command of the English language, but returned to Paris after only a few months to work in theater.
Her next film was Buffet froid (1979), written and directed by Bertrand Blier. Later, she would go on to win a César award for Best Actress in 1990 for her role in another of his films, Trop belle pour toi (1989).
In 1981 she gained international recognition when she became a "Bond girl" in the film For Your Eyes Only. She did not enjoy the experience however, and did not make another English language film until 1989, Woody Allen’s New York Stories.
Bouquet married French producer Jean-Pierre Rassam, with whom she has a son, Dimitri Rassam. Unfortunately, Jean-Pierre died in 1985 under mysterious circumstances, leaving her a widow. In 1997, she became romantically linked to Gerard Depardieu, but the relationship ended in 2001.
Bouquet has continued to work both in features and television.
