BINDI IRWIN
Date of Birth: July 24, 1998
Born in Queensland, Australia to Terri and "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, from the very first day of her birth, Bindi was involved with her parents' filming and wildlife conservation work. She has handled everything from spiders and snakes to crocodiles and elephants. Her adventures have taken her all over the world with her family and she has made numerous appearances in not only most of her parent's television programs, but on many international talk shows, including Oprah, Late Night with David Letterman, Larry King Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America and The Rachael Ray Show.
Bindi is home schooled and achieves first class grades. She sponsors a World Vision underprivileged child in Asia, donates time and money to help her late father's conservation charity, Wildlife Warriors Worldwide, and assists at the Australian Wildlife Hospital. Bindi's favorite animals are crocodiles and snakes, but she also loves koalas, possums and whales. Singing and dancing are favorite past times, and she has her own back-up group, "The Crocmen," who perform with her at Australia Zoo as well as special live events around the world. In 2006, Bindi released her very first DVD/CD special in Australia, which went platinum. Bindi: Kidfitness targeted the growing epidemic of child obesity.
In 2006/7, Bindi filmed her own television series Bindi The Jungle Girl for Discovery Kids which is now seen throughout the USA, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia with the participation of her father, but when he died in a freak accident involving a stingray in 2006, she gathered the strength to continue the show without him, instead using the many film clips he'd done over the years to keep him as a part of the show. In 2007, she starred in a television special for Animal Planet USA called My Daddy, The Crocodile Hunter, which looked at the first eight years of Bindi's life with her dad. The same year, Bindi's personal crusade to save whales culminated in her own emotional plea via release of the song "Save Me."
In March 2007, Bindi presented the award for Top Male Singer to Justin Timberlake at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and was later voted Favorite Aussie and Biggest Greenie (Environmentalist & Conservationist) at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in Sydney. Bindi also received star billing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York in November 2007. Bindi has addressed the prestigious National Press Club in Washington, D.C. and was a guest speaker at the United Nations World Environment Day in New York, where she was presented with a special award for her work in wild conservation for children.
In 2008, Bindi's strong international following inspired further episodes of her popular television series Bindi The Jungle Girl for Discovery Kids USA and ABC TV Australia. She was the youngest recipient at the Australian Logie Awards for most popular new female performer and in June won a prestigious Emmy Award in New York for best presenter in a children's television series. Autumn 2008 brought the release of Bindi's second DVD/CD - Bindi: Kidfitness - Jungle Dance Party.
In 2010, she released her first movie on DVD, starring opposite Beau Bridges in Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove.
In 2015, she won season 21 of the television competition series Dancing with the Stars.
