ALICIA VIKANDER

Alicia Amanda Vikander was born in Goteburg, Sweden to a stage actress mother, Maria Fahl Vikander, and psychiatrist father, Svante Vikander.

Her parents separated when she was five months old and Alicia has five half-siblings on her father’s side. Alicia began her career in television and plays while studying at the Royal Swedish Ballet School for nine years, before she left her professional dance career in 2009 to focus on acting.

Alicia started her career on Swedish television in 2002 and gained popularity when she played a lead role in the popular TV series Second Avenue (2007 to 2008). She then made her way into film and won the Rising Star Award at the Stockholm Film Festival and a Guldbagge Award for Best Actress for her leading role as Katarina in the 2009 film Pure.

Alicia went on to appear in A Royal Affair (2012), which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, and also in 2012 played alongside Keira Knightley and Jude Law as Kitty in Anna Karenina. Alicia won the Hamptons International Film Festival Award for Breakthrough Performer and was nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star Award and an Empire Award for Best Female Newcomer for her role as Kitty.

Since then Alicia has been very busy, appearing in Hotell (2013), The Fifth Estate (2013), Seventh Son (2014), Son of a Gun (2014) and Ex Machina (2015). Her performance as Vera Brittain in Testament of Youth (2014) received a nomination for a BIFA Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a British Independent Film. In 2016, she received Golden Globe nominations for her work in Ex Machina (2015) and The Danish Girl (2015). She won an Academy Award for her role in The Danish Girl (2015).

Alicia has also appeared in the action sequel Jason Bourne (2016) alongside Matt Damon, the romantic drama The Light Between Oceans (2016) with Michael Fassbender, the period drama Tulip Fever (2017) alongside Christoph Waltz and Dane DeHaan and for the reboot Tomb Raider (2018), she spent months training physically to take over the role of Lara Croft.

Most recently, Alicia provided the narraration for the film Anthropocene: The Human Epoch (2018), a documentary about the earth's destruction that has been caused by human dominance.

Alicia is married to actor Michael Fassbender, 11 years her senior, whom she met on the set of The Light Between Oceans.
