Aasif Mandvi
Date of Birth: March 5, 1966
Born in Mumbai, India, Aasif Hakim Mandviwala was raised in Bradford, England. When he was 16, his family moved to Tampa, Florida, and he later graduated with a bachelor's degree in theater studies from the University of South Florida.
Following college, Aasif moved to New York where he wrote and starred in a one-man play called Sakina's Restaurant, which won him a 1999 OBIE Award.
At this point, he'd already made brief appearances in 1990's No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers and 1995's Die Hard: With a Vengeance starring Bruce Willis.
As praise was pouring in for Sakina's Restaurant and he was beginning to be known as Aasif Mandvi, he landed a role in the feature film The Siege (1998). The part segued into work in Analyze This (1999) with Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal, as well as Random Hearts (1999), starring Harrison Ford.
He was then cast in 2004's Spider-Man 2, 2005's The War Within and 2006's Freedomland. During this period, he also picked up parts in notable television shows such as Sex and the City, Oz, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, CSI, The Sopranos, and ER.
The year he acted in Freedomland was the same year he found work on the Comedy Central program The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His performance was a big enough hit that the producers asked him to stay on full time.
Since his stellar turn on The Daily Show, Aasif has appeared in the feature films Music and Lyrics (2007), The Proposal (2009), The Last Airbender (2010), Ruby Sparks (2012) and Million Dollar Arm (2014).
Aasif also published a collection of personal essays in 2014 with his book titled No Land's Man.
In 2015, he won an acting, writing and producing gig on HBO's The Brink.
He stars alongside Hollywood heavyweights in 2016's Mother's Day, playing Kate Hudson's husband as well as sharing the screen with Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.
Aasif is scheduled to lend his voice to 2017's animated picture Blazing Samurai, which will also feature Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Cera and Ricky Gervais.
One of Aasif's closest friends is actress Connie Britton. The two performed together in a Murder Mystery company over 20 years ago.
