AARON ASHMORE

Date of Birth: October 7, 1979

Born in Richmond, British Columbia one minute before his twin brother (and fellow actor) Shawn Ashmore, Aaron was raised in Edmonton, Alberta and Brampton, Ontario.

At the age of 10, both Aaron and Shawn were discovered by a talent agent in Alberta. Since then, some may argue Shawn’s career has prevailed over his brother’s and those people may also point to an incident many years ago as the reason for the discrepancy.

When Aaron was getting a start in the business, he auditioned for an won a part in a commercial. However, when he fell ill on the day of the shoot, Shawn stepped in to replace him.

Regardless of how their respective careers were launched, Aaron has been acting frequently on the small screen and occasionally on the silver screen for several years. His television stints began with Atom Egoyan’s Gross Misconduct: The Life of Brian Spencer in 1993, in which Aaron played young Brian Spencer. That project segued into guest appearances on Due South (1996), Animorphs (1998), Emily of New Moon (1999), The Famous Jett Jackson (2000) and two appearances on Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1993 and 2000).

Although he was very briefly onscreen in the 1991 film Married to It with Stockard Channing and Beau Bridges, his first major feature film role came in the 2001 drama The Safety of Objects, in which he acted alongside Glenn Close, Dermot Mulroney, Patricia Clarkson and Kristen Stewart.

After that, he returned to TV for guest roles in Blue Murder in 2001, The West Wing in 2005 and a recurring role as Troy Vandergraff on Veronica Mars (2004 to 2006).

Aaron returned to the big screen for the Canadian film The Stone Angel (2007), sharing the screen with Ellen Burstyn and Ellen Page, as well as the horror film The Thaw (2009) with Val Kilmer.

Following that, Aaron has portrayed characters in a wide array of successful TV series, including a recurring role as Jimmy Olsen in Smallville (2006 to 2011), Dylan Masters in XIII: The Series (2011), Nate in Lost Girl (2011 to 2012), Scott Griffin in In Plain Sight (2010 to 2012), and young gay ATF agen Steve Jinks in Warehouse 13 (2011 to 2014).

He found his way back to the film industry in the 2016 thriller Regression, starring Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson, followed by the 2018 Canadian indie film, 22 Chaser (2018).

Although Aaron and Shawn were identical when they were younger, the two are a bit easier to distinguish today, as Aaron stands at 6'0" with a broader face and back while Shawn is 5'11" and has a slighter build. The brothers both have GMA tattooed on their wrists, which stands for "Good Man Ashmore."

In 2014, Aaron married longtime girlfriend Zoe Kate.
