Une vie meilleure

In a Parisian club where he tries in vain to land a job as a chef, Yann meets Nadia, a waitress with whom he quickly develops a relationship. During a trip to the woods, Yann, Nadia and her nine-year-old son Slimane come across an old building that Yann decides could be an ideal country restaurant, if he can get a loan from the bank into order to do some renovations. But neither Yann nor Nadia have any financial expertise and the project soon becomes a nightmare as he sinks deeply in debt. Nadia gets restless and goes to Montreal to work, leaving her son with Yann for the time being. When months pass without hearing from her, Yann fears that Slimane will be taken away by Social Services. He sells the restaurant at a loss and takes Slimane with him in search of Nadia.
