An old coachman with a paralyzed right arm lives with his daughter on a dilapidated farm. Their daily lives, punctuated by performing their daily routines in silence, are shared by their exhausted old horse, whom Friedrich Nietzsche defended a few days earlier in town after witnessing his master beating him. Since that incident, the natural order of things seem to be out of whack. A big wind storm arises and blows on the plains. In the stable, the horse refuses to move, then refuses to eat or drink. Their neighbor delivers disturbing news about an approaching apocalyptic disaster. When their well runs dry, father and daughter try to leave the farm, but an invisible threat forces them to turn back.
