The Gospel According to André
The Gospel According to André
This documentary takes a loving look at former Vogue fashion editor André Leon Talley.
Raised by his grandmother, Bennie Frances Davis, in Durham, North Carolina, young Talley experienced discrimination wherever he turned. With an eye for fashion and a desire to make something of himself, he realized getting an education was the only way to rise above the discrimination.
Accepted to Brown University on a scholarship, following graduation he moved to New York, where he first landed a job answering phones for Andy Warhol. Later, as a fashion journalist, Talley would often travel to fashion shows, but it wasn't until he met esteemed fashion editor Diana Vreeland, who hired him as her assistant, that he rose to the upper echelons of the fashion world.
Director Kate Novack follows Talley from Paris runways to New York City, his home in White Plains and on a journey back to his hometown, while also including plenty of vintage footage.
