Smita (Mia Maelzer) lives in India with her young daughter Lalita and husband. Her family is of the lowest caste in India, looked down upon by all the other castes. Her job is to pick up and dispose of human waste. Her daughter goes to school, but is treated poorly by the teacher. Her husband brings home rats for Smita to cook for dinner. Smita hates being an "Untouchable" and treated so badly, but her husband is afraid to leave, for fear that the entire family will be tortured and killed.
Giulia (Fotinì Peluso) lives in Italy, where her father owns a company that buys human hair to make wigs. When he's injured in a car accident, their company, which was already in a lot of debt, may close.
In Montreal, Sarah (Kim Raver) is a single mother with a teenage daughter and twin 10-year-old sons. She has a great job as an attorney, but when she receives a cancer diagnosis, her plans for the future come crashing down.
All three woman will somehow be connected, despite their differences.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Laetitia Colombani, who also directs the film and wrote the screenplay.
