Quirky, naive, inept Polly (McCarthy) is a hopeful photographer who gets a job as a secretary in worldly, pretentious Gabrielle's (Baillargeon) art gallery. Polly sends a selection of her photographs to her boss under another name, but Gabrielle dismisses them on the spot and Polly is crushed. Gabrielle's greatest wish is to be a great painter, but she doesn't have the talent. When Polly hangs up a picture, believing Gabrielle to be the artist, the art critics love it and although it's really the work of another painter, Mary, (Anne-Marie MacDonald) with whom Gabrielle is having a romantic relationship, Gabrielle takes the credit.
