Traumatized by the death of her first love, Claire McKay (Brendler), journeys to the island of her ancestors. During her stay she meets an eccentric writer, Celia (Redgrave), who tells her the story of another teenager (Dunst) who encountered a great loss and how the island is cursed. The story and island propel Claire on a journey into her own soul.
