Tehran, 1958. When his precious violin is destroyed, Nasser Ali Khan, one of the most famous musicians of his time, loses his interest in playing and decides to end his life. After considering various ways to commit suicide, he decides to die in bed. During the next eight days, the artist refuses to eat or drink and recalls the different stages of his life: his unhappy arranged marriage to a math teacher; his strained relationship with his militant communist younger brother, whose repeated stays in prison almost ruined their family; and especially, his love for Irâne, the beautiful daughter of a watchmaker whom he met while studying music, but whose father forbid them to marry. In his delirium, Nasser Ali converses with Azrael, the angel of death.
