Six months after being freed from Auschwitz, Hélène moves back into her old house in Paris, where she hopes to lead a normal life. Hélène is looking for Lily, a friend she made at Auschwitz. In 1960, they finally get in touch. The two women agree to meet at a hotel in the North of France.
Much To Hélène's surprise, Lily shows up with Rose, another Auschwitz prisoner whom Hélène thought was dead. Since 1945, when she was freed, Lily has become an author. Rose is now a mother and refuses to discuss what happened at Auschwitz. As for Hélène, she married a Holocaust survivor who was castrated. Over the course of several days, the three Jewish women enjoy a slow-paced vacation in the hope that they will finally be able to leave the past behind.
