When Josephine's adulterous husband leaves her, she settles into a life as a single, single, middle-aged mother of two daughters in Paris. A historian who specializes in the 18th century, she finds contemporary life a challenge.
Meanwhile, her glamorous and wealthy sister Iris lives a life of luxury, but feels like her life is futile. She tells her socialite friends she's writing a novel, and in exchange for a lump sum, coaxes her sister into writing it.
When the novel, published under Iris’s name, becomes a sensation, it’s only a matter of time before the book's success changes their relationship and transforms their lives forever.
