The City of Shadows

North Africa, the Aures Mountains, 1895. Max Orswell, a medical doctor, has just returned from the front lines of enemy war to a city he no longer recognizes. The army has invaded the colonial city, the streets are deserted, the indiginous Herenite community is subject to systematic checks by soldiers. One day, without warning, things change. A corpse appears in the street. Then another. In the eyes of the authorities, the Herenites brought the deadly bubonic plague into the city. City official close the city and quarantine the Herenite settlement. Max has to face the terrible facts: the horror of the war is back, and has followed him home.
