As he prepares to join his friends Paul and Max for a poker night, Simon surprises his young wife as she’s on the phone with someone whom he presumes to be her lover. In a fit of anger, he strangles her. Later, he goes to Max’s place. On behalf of their friendship of 35 years, Simon asks Paul and Max, respectively a rheumatologist and a radiologist, to provide an alibi. Thus begins a long night in which the three men take the opportunity to take stock of their lives.
Paul, who leads a quiet life, is bored with his wife, who spends her days sleeping, and their two children, with whom he can’t communicate. For his part, Max, who doesn’t live with his companion, bitterly regrets not having had children. While all three measure the extent of the ongoing drama and its collateral damage, Simon, Paul and Max confide in each other over the course of the night.
