Paris, 1830. Playboy Valentine (Jean Dujardin) loses himself in alcohol, gambling and fast women. He doesn’t believe in life and especially not in love. His uncle Van Buck (Gerard Jugnot) only believes in the virtues of money and business. They stick to their respective lives until one day when Van Buck, in an effort to improve his public image, decides Valentine should marry a young Baroness (Melanie Doutey).
Valentine, who absolutely does not want to marry, bets that he can seduce her in 24 hours and thereby prove that she, like all the others, isn’t worth his love. But Cécile, who believes in true love, will prove much more difficult to dazzle than he expected and Valentine will have to use all his charm and strategy to win his bet. A game of cat and mouse begins... But which is the cat?
