Paris, 1900. Celestine, a beautiful young girl, accepts a position as a maid in Normandy, in the Lanlaire home. Soon after she arrives, the harsh reality of her condition catches up to her: her master has a wandering hand and she’s subjected to endless groping, while his petty wife, Madame Lanlaire, doesn’t miss a chance to bully and insult the girl.
However, Celestine is not one to give in easily, and gradually finds her way around. She soon warms up to her fellow servants, including Joseph, the mysterious, anti-semitic gardener. Initially attracted to Joseph, Celestine begins to suspect him when a neighbor girl is found raped and murdered.
