A Completely Eclectic Theater Experience
March 06, 2019
Let's not quibble: there is no theater experience like it within 40 miles of Fort Collins. Only the Realto in Loveland can compare and that would be oranges and apples. Fort Collins cool is the vibe and causal is the reality. Show up any way you want short of slobbering zombie or moldering mummy and few will disapprove. I've seen plenty of the finely dressed happily hob-nobbing with the sweatshirt set. A decent selection of micros behind the bar combined with an expanded selection of concession fare keep you satisfied. The lobby is about a third the floor space and many arrive for the brew-bub feel rather than a show. Like at Avogardo's Number, afternoons there are a break for Mom's and kids. The actual theaters are now nicely sized and comfortable, though if you want a couch, better arrive a bit early. I only wish the concrete floor could be softened in some way... like with that soft garage floor coating stuff for instance. Perhaps the speaker quality can go up a notch or some baffling would be helpful for a better real depth experience, but I'm cool with the current setup being as good as most other shows in town. With the recent addition of outdoor showings, which reminded me of a cross between a drive-in and my teen summers of Marx Brothers' comedies in the city park, there is nothing currently like it. As to the showtimes themselves, the crowd may tend to respond to the screen events a bit more than the south end big boxes, but that's part of the feel of the place (hey, I recall the old days when the whole house cheered the sinking of Nazi subs in "The Incredible Mr. Limpet" when I was a 4th grader, but it's hardly at THAT level). For the showings of "Yellow Submarine", we were all singing along (some of us even to the alternate "Soapy Tangerines" tune). All part of the fun. Go and leave your straight up TV evening behind. You'll be happy you did.
Better than a normal theatre

Tickets are reasonably priced, the beer isn't too expensive, and the theatre has a fun and funky layout. Not to mention it is much cleaner than most theatres.
Had no heat!

The seats are better than the old Lyric. But the space is ugly. And it was freezing cold in the theatre.
